    Endovascular Surgery

    vascular surgery

The human circulatory system comprises the heart that pumps the blood and the vessels that transport it throughout the body. Vascular diseases may include any faults in the artery, vein, or lymph that eventually compromises the blood flow to different parts of the body. It is obvious that a healthy life is directly dependent on the health status of the circulatory system. Vascular diseases are a threat to the well-being of a person and may prove lethal, if not addressed in due time by a vascular physician. There can be several reasons for developing a vascular disease, including congenital causes, however, the most common cause of vascular disease is atherosclerosis, which in turn is linked with lifestyle choices. Smoking, obesity, and physical inactivity may just be a few reasons.

Endovascular surgery is a surgical sub-specialty in which diseases of the vascular system, or arteries, veins, and lymphatic circulation, are managed by medical therapy, minimally invasive catheter procedures, and surgical reconstruction. Vascular surgery can also be done via conventional procedures but, wherever possible, a minimally invasive alternative is preferred. Dr. Imtiaz offers a wide range of surgical and non-surgical treatments, including removal of plaque from arteries, treatment of varicose veins, and surgery to prevent aneurysms, heart attacks, or coronary artery disease, among others. It is dependent on the patient’s condition for the specialist to decide if a minimally invasive endovascular was surgery would be conclusive.

The Vascular Surgery Team collaborates with physicians in cardiology, internal medicine, neurology, interventional radiology, and podiatry in order to offer each patient a multidisciplinary treatment plan. Each year, our surgeons evaluate hundreds of patients with circulatory conditions ranging from the common to the rare. Our commitment is to diagnose and optimize our patients’ circulatory health. A personalized treatment approach is always the most effective therapy.

Three of the most recognized vascular diseases include:

    • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
    • Carotid Artery Disease – Stroke
    • Peripheral Arterial Disease

Endovascular surgery encompasses surgery of the aorta, carotid arteries, and lower extremities, including the iliac, femoral, and tibial arteries. Dr Imtiaz Ahmad, an interventional radiologist and endovascular surgical specialist, uses his expertise and knowledge to help solve issues concerning the vessels such as varicocele and varicose veins. The approach taken employs the principles of interventional radiology and is, therefore, a much safer option as a treatment. Since endovascular surgery procedures and other treatments concerning the vessels require utmost precision and accuracy, a skilled specialist and live imaging ensures both.

    Post Procedures

Once you’re done with the treatment, the endovascular surgical specialist and interventional radiologist will analyze your road towards improvement at every step of the way. As you’re in the hospital, the doctor and medical staff are obligated to look after your health and ensure that you attain a speedy recovery. After being discharged from the hospital, your doctor and staff will keep in touch with you for regular check-ups through calls to ensure you’re doing well, until the point you get back to being perfectly healthy.

Dr. Ahmad has been practicing in the health care industry for more than 20 years.
In 1995 he completed his fellowship at Northwestern University Chicago Illinois USA.
